[[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) They had won the first two games in Wisconsin and then the first game in Florida, before the Rays, the American League's top seed, forced game five. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) Milwaukee took the lead in the second inning on a single by Cooper Pratt that sent Brice Turang home. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) The Brewers added a run in the fifth on a David Hamilton hit. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) They then doubled their lead through a double by William Contreras and a sacrifice fly by Pratt. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) Starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski left in the sixth inning, and the Rays scored in the ninth when Chandler Simpson sent Liam Hicks home on a double. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) ## The road through October The Brewers became MLB champions with 11 wins from 13 games in the postseason. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) On the way, they swept the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, which avenged the previous season's loss to them. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) For the second straight year, the Brewers finished the regular season with MLB's best record. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) ## The smallest market, a mid-sized payroll The Brewers are based in Major League Baseball's smallest market. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) This year they had the 19th highest payroll of the league's 30 teams. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) Their only previous World Series appearance came in 1982. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) The franchise entered MLB in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots and moved to Milwaukee after only one season. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) ## Contreras takes MVP William Contreras was named World Series most valuable player. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) The 28-year-old is the eighth catcher to win the award and the third Venezuelan. [[1]](https://www.bbc.com/sport/baseball/articles/c5x2v991l0lvo) Contreras, Jackson Chourio and Antonio Senzatela also helped Venezuela win the World Baseball Classic in March.
