Danks speaks for Bayern

Bayern go into their DFB-Pokal second-round tie against Magdeburg without head coach Vincent Kompany, who remains in hospital after collapsing on Friday. [1] Kompany is 40. [1]

Co-trainer Aaron Danks, 43, spoke as interim head coach at the press conference at the Säbener Straße on Tuesday morning. [1]

Kimmich stays with his family

Joshua Kimmich's father Berthold died suddenly at the age of 57. [1] Kimmich missed the games against Arsenal (2:2) and at Freiburg (3:1). [1]

He will also miss the Magdeburg match, and the club is giving him time with his family. [1] Danks expects Kimmich to return this week. [1]

The current plan is for Kimmich to be available for the Saturday Bundesliga top match against Borussia Dortmund. [1]

Neuer out, Urbig in goal

Manuel Neuer, 40, is out with tendon irritation in his foot and will not play against Magdeburg. [1] Before the Freiburg match he had also been rested for the games in Stavanger (3:3) and against Leipzig (6:1). [1]

Jonas Urbig, 23, will replace Neuer in goal for the sixth time this season on Wednesday evening. [1]

Who else is missing

Jamal Musiala, 23, suffered a muscle fiber tear in his right thigh about four and a half weeks ago and is doing rebuilding training. [1] Danks said it is still too early for Neuer and Musiala to return. [1]

Luis Díaz, 29, has a bundle tear in his left thigh and will be out for about another month. [1] Midfield talent Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, 18, is out because of appendix surgery. [1]

Aleksandar Pavlovic (22, calf problems) and Minjae Kim (29, knee problems) are uncertain for the squad after the Arsenal draw. [1] Danks said both are one step closer to returning, and there is hope for a comeback against Magdeburg. [1]

The Bayern article counts three absences and four question marks in the squad before the cup match. [1] Bayern will not take risks with the upcoming Dortmund match in mind. [1]

A childhood dream for Nollenberger

Magdeburg is a second-division club. [2] Its defender Alexander Nollenberger, 29, calls the match against Bayern a childhood dream. [2]

Nollenberger was born in Memmingen and grew up in the Allgäu as a Bayern fan. [2] He joined Bayern in 2018 and is a former player of the club. [2]

He said Bayern are currently playing very impressively. [2] He also said Magdeburg has a chance and that they believe in it. [2]

What it means for you

If you want to watch, the cup match against Magdeburg is on Wednesday at 20:45 and is broadcast on ARD and Sky. [1] It takes place under floodlights at the Allianz Arena in Munich. [2]
