Barkley's status for Sunday night

Saquon Barkley has no injury designation entering Sunday night's game, and he is available as the Eagles try to stop a five-game slide [1]. DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks are both out [1].

Per NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Eagles plan to limit Barkley to a snap count in Week 8 against Washington [1]. Barkley said he hoped to play against Washington and was still dealing with injuries [2].

How the injuries piled up

Barkley missed two games earlier this season with a hamstring injury before returning against the Cowboys [1]. The hamstring injury kept him out of Weeks 5 and 6 [2].

His back injury came on his first carry against Dallas, a 29-yard run in which he was tripped up around midfield [2]. He touched the ball seven more times for the rest of that game [2].

A backfield with few options

The Eagles have used six different running backs in the first seven games of the season [1]. Dameon Pierce was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday after an undisclosed injury in the Monday night loss to Dallas [1]. He must miss at least four games [1].

Pierce had rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries in three games before his latest injury [1]. Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also on injured reserve [1]. Carson Steele is no longer on the roster [1].

Mitchell logged his first carries since 2023 when he played against Dallas [2]. Blue had zero touches or snaps in Week 6 against the Panthers [2].

Who Blue is

The Cowboys drafted Blue in the fifth round last year, and after Dallas released him following camp he became an Eagle [3]. He ran a 4.38 at the NFL Combine, the second-fastest time among the 24 running backs who ran in Indianapolis [3].

The team around him

Barkley averaged 5.7 yards per rushing attempt in 2026 when on the field [1]. The Eagles reportedly have no plans to trade him before the Nov. 10 deadline despite their 2-5 record and five-game losing streak [1].

Tanner McKee is replacing Jalen Hurts at quarterback [1]. Coach Nick Sirianni said he felt good about the running back depth despite injuries [2].

What it means for you

If you are tracking Barkley for Sunday night, he has no injury designation [1]. Watch his snaps, because the Eagles plan to put him on a snap count against Washington [1].

Barkley himself said he was still dealing with injuries [2]. With Pierce, Shipley and Bigsby unavailable, the carries behind him are likely to go to others on the roster, such as Mitchell and Blue [1][2].
